On 10 May 2014, ‘Imad Abu Shamsiyeh, a B’Tselem camera volunteer in Hebron, filmed soldiers as they detained his son ‘Awni, 15, near his home. According to information gathered by B’Tselem, a group of settler teens blocked ‘Awni’s path and assaulted him. When ‘Awni raised his belt in self-defense, soldiers present nearby accused him of attacking the settlers and detained him. The soldiers let the settlers leave and took ‘Awni to a nearby base, meanwhile roughly shoving ‘Imad Abu Shamsiyeh and keeping him from accompanying his son. ‘Awni was released without interrogation after half an hour or so.
